Pulsair Gauntlet

More than a mere weapon, the pulsair gauntlet exists as a symbol to the people of Teagan. Forged literally from the chains of their oppression under the Sith, this ornate weapon stands as an eternal reminder of what was accomplished and the chosen path ahead. Similarities between the pulsair gauntlet and its cousin, the lightsaber, would seem obvious, but differences do exist between the two. Where a Jedi’s lightsaber uses a single focusing crystal, the pulsair holds several smaller crystals to produce a half-meter long energy shaft similar to a lightsaber blade. When activated, the weapon emits a sound likened by some to a swarm of angry insects, contrasting the lightsaber's low and more mesmerizing hum. Those who wield the pulsair wear the item on their forearm instead of holding it and activate the gauntlet through positioning of the hand and wrist. The pulsair’s lighter construction render it somewhat disadvantaged against its heavier Jedi and Sith counterpart, calling for the Devon to develop a more kinetic style of engagement that favors lighter swatting deflection and evasion over more direct, forceful blocks. Coupled with a belief that the original pulsairs were developed from ‘power manacles’ used during the height of the Sith Empire, this best explains why Devon warriors almost always use these weapons in tandem, one on each arm. While no doubt exceptions exist, seeing a single gauntlet in use should be considered a rare sight indeed. Lack of key resources and much improvisation on the part of its progenitors spawned many variations of design. Over the centuries as the formal cadres or battle schools of Teagan were formed, less practical configurations fell to the wayside. Nevertheless, variations in design will no doubt be encountered, remembering that all pulsairs are hand made by their original wielders as proof of their right to these most revered of Devon weapons. Listed below are the most commonly recognized configurations. Note that each name listed is an approximation of its pronunciation in the native Devon tongue, Kajole, followed by its rough translation in Basic. Sal-to-ran 'Forward Fang' One blade projects over the back of the wearer's hand, braced along the forearm. Thor-ta 'Side Hammer' Two smaller blades project from the vicinity of the wielder’s wrist, one on each side, also braced by the forearm conduit. Ur-dain 'Night Terror' Multiple emission points along the gauntlet’s body produce several blades projecting away from the back of the arm. (Note - This model of pulsair is wildly prone to overheating!) * Currently held example is capable of three half-meter blades. Glam-zur 'Long Shield' Multiple emission points form a single columniation or blade along the back of the gauntlet. Hist-to-ran 'Mirror Fang' An elongated emission port projects along the rear of the forearm away from the user's elbow.
