|The Strike-class medium cruiser first came into service several years before the Battle of Yavin IV, using more current technology than the Dreadnaught-class heavy cruiser and Carrack-class light cruiser. Despite being a smaller vessel, the Strike-class cruiser has a stronger hull, better shields and heavier armament than the Dreadnaught-class.
The typical Strike-class cruiser normally carries one squadron of 12 TIE fighters, two AT-STs and one AT-AT in addition to its troop complement. Since these cruisers are actually modular in design, variants can be made to specialize as light carriers that carry two squadrons of TIE fighters and variants, ground assault ships carrying 5 AT-ATs and a walker platoon, or troop transports with up to a battalion of Army troops.
