Mother Plant

The mother plant is a huge, unintelligent plant. Round in shape, the plant is dominated by a gigantic mouth lined with thorn-like teeth used to chew its prey. The plant's maw is hidded from view by a multitude of leafy stalks located on its body. The roots are comprised of six short tap roots and a thick mat of secondary roots. The plant exudes a mild scent that smells of sweet honey mixed with an organic earthy odor.

When in its natural habitat on Binaros, an adult mother plant lies dormant during daylight hours, folded back in on itself. Only when darkness falls does it unfurl and become more active.

The mother plant has several stages of life. While growing from a spore, it creates feeders to seek out and bring nutrients back to promote its own rapid growth. To accomplish this growth, the plant requires abundant minerals and metals that can be found only in Binaros's vegetation, not in the planet's soil. After a couple of weeks when it reaches the adult stage, the mother plant releases spores into the atmosphere, but it requires a large amount of nitrogen to do this. The feeders gather the necessary nitrogen by internally distilling it from blood obtained from living or recently killed creatures and feed it to the mother plant. Under ideal conditions, the mother plant can reach maturity within two weeks.
