Although they are not very well known by Imperial forces, the Des'maric Pirates pose a serious threat to any lightly armed merchant vessel traveling in the Kathol sector. This group of pirates has been operating out of the Kathol sector for a little over a year but went virtually unnoticed by Moff Sarne's forces. Thus far, they have not taken very much, and the ship disappearances have been labeled as lost due to hyperspace accidents. Their primary base is aboard the heavily armed bulk freighter called the Asagov Raider. They prefer to keep it far from their incursions to protect it, since it could be easily destroyed by an Imperial cruiser or escort frigate. Over one hundred pirates make up the gang, but most of them are no more than common criminals, cowardly and treacherous. The pirates' methods of sacking a ship are relatively simple. They blockade a trade route by towing an asteroid into the travel lane and forcing a ship to drop out of hyperspace. Before the ship can make a new jump, the pirates surround the ship and force the crew to surrender.
