The Defender is a short-range starfighter designed very early after the Battle of Endor. The fighter has its origins from an older design but has been upgraded with current systems to hold its own against modern fighters.

The Defender was designed specifically for space combat. Although it has light armor, its array of firepower is impressive, and the fact that it is smaller than an A-wing makes it a more difficult ship to target.

The ship comes with maneuvering jets that increase its maneuverability, allowing the Defender to make sudden spins and turns in space, including 180o turns. This maneuvering system is installed on extendible S-foil struts that extend out for space combat, but the struts are folded back against the hull for normal flight or while in an atmosphere which reduces the ship's maneuverability.
