| One thousand years after the revolt of Exar Kun, a new threat to peace in the galaxy arose as a talented young Jedi student succumbed to the dark side and took the name of Lord Rend. Thrust into the middle of this conflict was another promising Jedi apprentice, the beautiful Touri Evenstar. Orphaned on Nar Shadda, Touri was discovered by the aged Wookie master Shanucca, who adopted her and trained her in the ways of the Force. Returning with her new life friend to the Republic capital of Coruscant, Touri met Shanucca's other apprentice, the dashing 18 year old Jen-Mei Také. Young Touri was immediately smitten with the handsome Padawan, but Jen-Mei was less than thrilled by her intrusions into his Jedi studies. Together, the two apprentices tried to please their stringent Wookie master, whose infamous creed "Physical hardship brings emotional clarity" pushed their minds and bodies to the limit. Shanucca would often play one student against the other, testing their character. Touri rose to the challenge - but secretly, Jen-Mei Také felt his resentment growing. With Shanucca training Touri now, Jen-Mei felt his own development was being stunted as his master spent more and more time with the girl. At the tender ages of 16 and 24, Touri and Jen-Mei were sent back to the former's homeworld. After the assassination of Kashyyyk's beloved female Senator Hammok, Master Shanucca went off to pursue one lead on Rodia while the two apprentices looked for information on Nar Shadda. During a skirmish in the bowels of the infamous smuggler moon, Jen-Mei Také was thrown into a radiation chamber. Forced to flee for her life, Touri had no choice but to abandon her fellow Padawan to his fate. Little did she know that Jen-Mei's strength in the Force had enabled him to survive his brush with death, but her leaving him there was the final straw.
