|Around 800 years before the Battle of Yavin, a young man worked as a spacehand on a waystation in deep space. Barely able to make ends meet, he moonlighted as a thief on the station as well, picking the pockets of visitors and guests. One day, he picked the wrong pocket. When the man turned around and threw him against the wall using the Force, he managed to resist the Force attack that continued to assault him. Surprised at the defense, the Sith realized that the lad was sensitive to the Force. Seeking a new apprentice, the Sith lord took him in and began his training as a Sith. The apprentice soon became known as Darth Ti'Ran.
As he was reaching the ending of his training, he was preparing to challenge his master and take his position. Learning of his plans and knowing he could not win against his student, the master sent Ti'Ran out on an assignment and instructed a dark apprentice seeking Ti'Ran's position to sabotage the life support system in his ship. Shortly after leaving, alarms went off indicating that life support had failed. With no other course of action, Darth Ti'Ran managed to get into a cryonic capsule he had reserved in case of emergencies. Eventually, his ship ran out of fuel and continued to drift unpowered through open space.
Twenty years after the Battle of Yavin, Ti'Ran's ship was caught in the gravity well of a planet and crash-landed in the desolate jungles of Dathomir. Thanks to prior planning and proper preparations, the cryonic capsule was not damaged in the crash.
Five years passed with no contact from anyone. Finally, a young dark witch was wandering through the jungles and happened across the crash site. Investigating the ruins, she discovered the capsule and revived the Sith lord inside. Awakening to a new galaxy and learning that the Sith no longer existed, Ti'Ran took it upon himself to revive the Sith and become its first new master. Seeing potential in the young woman that rescued him, he convinced her to become his pupil in the Sith arts.
Within a few months, a scout ship with an exploration team from the New Republic landed on Dathomir. Seizing the opportunity, Darth Ti'Ran and his pupil, Darth Malice, attacked and slaughtered the crew, took the ship and left the planet.
Learning of the threat of the Yuuzhan Vong, Darth Ti'Ran has decided to remain in hiding to see which side will emerge victorious. He is content with either outcome that may result from the war: the Jedi are wiped out or are weakened enough to allow him and Darth Malice to exterminate them personally.
