|The Devon are a race of humanoids that developed on Teagan, a dark world in the Outer Rim near the Corporate Sector. All Devon are, for lack of a better term, cyclic hermaphrodites. Devon children are female from birth, until they enter their first andro-phase, usually around age twenty-five. After this change, Devon are male until approximately age thirty-five, when they again become female. Under normal circumstances, they remain female until around their forty-seventh year, when they again may experience andro-phase. However, conditions may occur, such as pregnancy, which will cause a Devon to settle into either male or female phase.
The Devon were a peaceful race, until their homeworld was conquered by the Sith approximately 6,800 years before the Battle of Yavin IV. Enslaved by their new masters, the Devon served the Sith in many aspects of their society and were prized as pets and concubines.
During their enslavement, the Devon sought to rebel against the Sith and free themselves once again. This proved difficult, considering most did not have any real ability to use the Force.
Eventually, due mainly to interbreeding with members of the Sith, Force-sensitive Devon began to appear. Secret groups that developed Force-resisting techniques and trained others to use them quickly followed, even though they still could not wield it. Using covert weapons of their own design, the Devon slowly began to free themselves from the bonds that had shackled them for over two thousand years by taking out their masters one by one.
Many generations later, having developed themselves to be strong enough to resist and even hide their presence from the Force, came the day of Ave-Liberten (Day of Freedom), sparking ten years of the bloodiest period in Teaganís history. During this time, the global population was reduced from five billion to less than seven million Devon. However, with their new abilities and will to survive, the Devon fought back and slowly drove the Sith from their world. Finally free from their oppressors, the Devon began to rebuild their civilization.
Devon civilization, reforged as a democratic society, is ruled by The Matriarchy, a council of elders chosen through election by the general population. Thriving on offworld trade, Teagan has developed into a major trade exchange hub in their section of the galaxy. Teagan's two major starports, Neopari and Delavie, have large areas contracted out to the Corporate Sector as major ports-of-call that regulate the transportation of cargo in and out of their space.
Personality: Typically, Devon are friendly and open to most everyone that visits their world. They are quick to entertain and please their guests, leaving them with a lasting good impression to encourage them to return and invite more people to come and enjoy their hospitality. The only people to which the Devon are openly dispassionate are members of a group that learn about the Force. A deep, possibly irrational, fear of another invasion and enslavement similar to the one by the ancient Sith cause them to make every effort to demonstrate that such individuals are not wanted nor welcome on Teagan.
Physical Description: Devon typically have pale white skin and a build very similar to Humans. The one noticeable difference is a set of horns that extend from their foreheads and temples.
Languages: Devon speak Basic and Kajole.
Example Names: Carthera, Dureen, Julata, Kaleel, Tedara.
Adventurers: Modern Devon are very rarely seen offworld. They usually have no need to see the sites of the galaxy, because most of the galaxy comes to them. When a Devon is seen away from their homeworld, they are most commonly employed as assassins or bounty hunters that use stealth to the highest advantage.
