The Demarans were discovered only two years after Thrawn's campaign against the New Republic. Their homeworld, Demara, lies in the Outer Rim near the Elrood Sector. They were discovered when a New Republic ship needing repairs mistakenly dropped out of hyperspace in their star system and landed on their world seeking assistance. With the assistance of the Demarans, the ship was repaired but not before the natives quickly learned about the hyperdrive systems.
Until this time, the Demarans believed that they were the only intelligent life in the galaxy. Now that they have begun to interact with the galaxy at large, they believe themselves to be the only true intelligence in existence. Their society has adopted a new philosophy to begin "converting" the other races from being "animals" into fellow Demarans.
Personality: Curious but cautious, Demarans are opportunists that look for any way to get ahead but are wary of those they do not know or understand.
Physical Description: Standing roughly about 1.6 meters in height, the Demarans have hard, chitinous exoskeletons that soften at the joints (to permit movement) and on the palms of the hands and feet (to enhance sensitivity). The Demaran head has deep-set eyes, slightly flanged ear holes and a toothless mouth with deeply serrated lips and a short, stubby tongue.
  Homeworld: Demara
Languages: Demarans speak, read and write Demaran. They are learning to speak Basic fluently, but some are picking it up faster than others.
  Example Names: Karn, Laudon, Vadlo.
Adventurers: Demarans that leave their homeworld commonly connect with those in positions of influence with hopes of gaining such power for themselves, typically in governmental bodies or underworld circuits.

Demaran Species Traits

Demarans share the following species traits:
Ability Modifiers: +2 Intelligence, -2 Strength. Demarans are bright but are somewhat weak.
Medium Size: As Medium creatures, Demarans have no special bonuses or penalties due to their size.
Speed: Demaran base speed is 6 squares.
Great Fortitude: Demarans gain a +2 species bonus to their Fortitude Defense, accounting for their physical resistance.
Deceptive: Adept at misdirection, a Demaran may choose to reroll any Deception check, but the result of the reroll must be accepted even if it is worse.
  Automatic Languages: Basic and Demaran.
